The Masters Hand

Welcome to The Master's Hand Thrift Store!!

When The Lighthouse Center first opened, we realized that simple cash donations from the community would not be enough to support the mission. Darren started praying about how to handle the financial issue. God made it clear to him and the board of directors to open a thrift store. We may not all be able to help with regular cash donations, but we all have stuff we want to get rid of. The idea is to have a thrift store where everything is donated, so prices can stay reasonable and all the money can go to keep the Lighthouse funded. Thus The Master's Hand was created and the community response has been phenomenal! Located at 980 W. 5th St. Washington, IA 52353. We are open Monday - Saturday from 9am-6pm. Our phone number is: 319-864-1044. Not only does the money from the store go back into the Lighthouse, but the store offers work to those who are at the shelter or have a hard time finding a job. Our stock is constantly changing, we have something for everyone and there are new things added to the floor daily! By shopping here or volunteering here, you help change lives. So shop here, or volunteer here, today!!

The Lighthouse Center is about changing lives. And when the thrift store was created, and needed to be named, we started to think about all the things people like to throw away. They say, 'One mans trash is another mans treasure'. And that is so true!! But we tend to throw away people too. The ones that are hard to deal with, or take too much time, or have too many problems. The homeless. The broken. The hurting. But God see's the person inside. And He died for us all. And when He comes into our life, it makes all the difference. Which is why The Master's Hand was named after a song. Here are the lyrics:

Well it was battered and scared, And the auctioneer felt it was hardly worth his while, To waste much time on the old violin but he held it up with a smile, Well it sure ain't much but its all we got left I guess we aught to sell it to, Oh, now who'll start the bid on this old violin? Just one more and we'll be through.
And then he cried one give me one dollar, Who'll make it two only two dollars who'll make it three, Three dollars twice now that's a good price, Now who's gonna bid for me? Raise up your hand now don't wait any longer the auctions about to end, Who's got four Just one dollar more to bid on this old violin?
Well the air was hot and the people stood around as the sun was setting low, From the back of the crowd a gray haired man, Came forward and picked up the bow, He wiped the dust from the old violin then he tightened up the strings, Then he played out a melody pure and sweet, sweeter than the Angels sing, And then the music stopped and the auctioneer, With a voice that was quiet and low he said now what am I bid, For this old violin and he held it up with a bow.
And then he cried out one give me one thousand, Who'll make it two only two thousand who'll make it three, Three thousand twice you know that's a good price, Common who's gonna to bid for me? And the people cried out what made the change we don't understand, Then the auctioneer stopped and he said with a smile, It was the touch of the Master's hand.
You know there's many a man with his life out of tune, Battered and scared with sin and he's auctioned cheap, To a thankless world much like that old violin, Oh, but then the Master comes, And that old foolish crowd they never understand, The worth of a soul and the change that is rought, Just by one touch of the Masters hand.
And then he cried out one give me one thousand, Who'll make it two only two thousand who'll make it three, Three thousand twice you know that's a good price, Common who's gonna bid for me? And the people cried out what made the change we don't understand, Then the auctioneer stopped and he said with a smile, It was the touch, that's all it was; it was the touch of the Master's hand, It was the touch of the Master's hand; oh, it was the touch of the Master's hand
